Lady Prospectors battle Eagles to claim four-set win

MISSOULA – The Granite girls volleyball team earned a hard-fought victory from the Eagles of Valley Christian Tuesday night in four sets, 26-24, 20-25, 25-20, 25-19. The win leaves the Lady Prospectors at 4-1.

After Granite squeaked out a two-point win in overtime in the opening set, Valley rallied back to even the match at 1-1 by claiming the second set 25-20. The Lady Prospectors returned the favor in set three, winning by the same 25-20 score before winning the match outright in the fourth.

“We had our ups and downs,” said junior Gretchen Hill, “but in the end we came out strong. We have a lot of work to do but we plan on getting better and working together.”

It was a match highlighted by team play as three of the five stat categories had dual leaders. Annabelle Locke and Ella Tallon each had two digs, Tallon and Rachel Ward split assists with four apiece and Tallon and Asha Comings had five service aces each. Reece Pitcher stood out in the attack stats with six kills and 6.5 blocks.

Granite’s match Thursday against the Mountain Cats has been delayed until October 12 due to COVID-19 concerns at Superior. The Lady Prospectors will instead play their next games in the Arlee Spike It Tournament Saturday, September 18.
