Lady Prospectors storm back to beat Lincoln in overtime

FRENCHTOWN – Down eight with eight minutes to play, the end of the season loomed large for the Granite Lady Prospectors.

But in that final period, Granite clamped down on defense to create a 14-6 run that knotted the game at 33-33 when the fourth quarter’s buzzer sounded. And that defense held up into overtime as the Lady Prospectors gave up a single free throw while scoring 10 of their own in beating the Lady Lynx 43-34 in a Consolation Bracket game Friday at the Girls C Western Division Tournament.

Granite started slowly, playing for the second straight day at 9:30 a.m. Lincoln managed a 14-12 lead at halftime and extended it to 27-19 by the end of the third.

“These girls had my heart racing,” exclaimed GHS Head Coach Cash Laslovich after the win! “ They showed teamwork and perseverance! They couldn't wake up! But finally did!”

The fourth quarter saw Granite switch from a man-to-man into a 2-3 press that confused the Lincoln offense. The change allowed the Lady Prospectors to make up the eight points they lacked, only to race past their opponent in the extra period.

Montannah Piar exploded in the final 13 minutes of play, scoring 12 of her game-high 20 points over the fourth and overtime periods, including seven in the last stanza.

Granite will play a third 9:30 a.m. game Saturday when they face the loser of the West Yellowstone-White Sulphur Springs game from the Winner’s Bracket. The winner of that game will advance to the Consolation Bracket.

With their second loss, the Lady Lynx were eliminated from the tournament.
