Trojan cagers start District play with road wins at Seeley

SEELEY LAKE – In back to back games the Drummond Trojan basketball teams started slowly and then applied a stifling defense to claim wins in their District 13C openers on the road at Seeley Lake.

The Lady Trojans trailed by two after one period, 8-6, but held the host Lady Blackhawks to a single bucket in the second period while scoring 14 to hold a 22-8 margin at halftime. They repeated the feat in the third, outscoring Seeley 25-7 to take a 32-point lead they would never relinquish.

“The girls are starting to get comfortable together and they are playing hard-nosed basketball,” said Lady Trojan Head Coach Logan Wilson. “It is a young team with unlimited potential and we have a lot of room to grow.”

Lexi Nelson led Drummond, scoring seven points in that that post-halftime run on her way to 17 on the night. Remington Cline was close behind with 14 for the game, also scoring seven points in that same eight-minute span. Cline and teammate Kimber Parsons (9 pts) each had six rebounds while Nelson was tops in steals with seven.

On the boys side the Trojans dug an even deeper hole to start the game, trailing by seven after the first quarter. But a blistering offensive onslaught in the second became a 27-5 run that saw six different Drummond players score, led by Michael James’ eight.

James finished with 16 was the third highest scorer for the locals. Scott Parke led with 18 and eight rebounds with Brody Rasor close behind at 17 and seven assists.

“After a slow first quarter we were able to get things rolling,” observed Trojan Boys head Coach Levi Parsons. “Our defense started a little flat, but we were able to make some good adjustments that led to quite a few transition baskets.”

Drummond takes the rest of 2023 off and will begin play again January 4 with a non-district set of games at Loyola Sacred Heart.
