Titans close regular season undefeated with win at Seeley

SEELEY LAKE – The Flint Creek Titans closed their regular season a week early Friday night, beating the Seeley Swan Blackhawks on the road 42-6.

The victory leaves the Titans at 7-0 on the season and on a 19-game win streak stretching back over 2020’s undefeated championship run. But despite being unbeaten, Flint Creek will enter the postseason as the #2 team out of the west, barring an unforeseen loss by Thompson Falls to Plains (Saturday) or Troy (October 21). That means that the Titans will host the #3 team out of the south, which at present appears to be Joliet, in Philipsburg October 30th.

Looking ahead to the postseason, Ostler added, “Every game’s a big game from here on out. You gotta win or go home.”

Friday night’s affair started slowly for both clubs, but Flint Creek Head Coach Jason Ostler took the blame for his team’s early misfires.

“I didn’t call a very good first quarter there,” observed Ostler after the win. “I tried running some stuff we haven’t ran much. I got cute and that’s on me.”

Once they shook off the early jitters, the Titans got back to doing what they do best – playing hard-nosed football. It started with a 4-yard run by Avery Metesh to opening the scoring with 8:38 to play before halftime and was followed by an onside kick and a Tyler Burden 5-yard scoring run to quickly make it 14-0.

Just before the half ended Andrew Tallon hit Colt Parsons with an 18-yard scoring pass in the back of the end zone that gave Flint Creek a 22-0 lead at intermission.

Once the break was over the Titans got right back to scoring as Tallon hit Burden on a screen pass that turned into a 32 scoring play just a minute into the third period. Five minutes later Chase Goldade hit Cooper Bradshaw over the middle on a 33 yard scoring strike.

Burden closed out the scoring with 3:21 to go in the third quarter on a two-yard rush over the middle.

Seeley Swan got its only score of the game on the fourth when Walker McDonald found daylight around the left end, scampering 62 yards for a touchdown.
