Locals stay perfect in Tip Off Tournament play


RONAN – For the second straight day the Granite and Drummond basketball teams scored a clean sweep of their opposition, leaving each of the four teams at 2-0 on the year.

 

Girls Basketball

Granite 37, Superior 13

Granite took charge quickly, scoring 17 while holding the Bobcats scoreless in the opening stanza.

“It’s a good start to the season,” said GHS Head Coach Brandon said after Saturday’s win. “Lots of stuff to we need to work on but the girls played hard.”

Lucia Lee and Asha Comings led the offense with 10 points apiece.

Boys Basketball

Granite 74, Superior 35

It took the Prospectors eight minutes to find their bearings, but once they did hammers the Superior Bobcats with a 26-2 second quarter run that salted away the victory.

“We came out flat, but we got our minds right and dominated,” said Cayhel White, who scored seven points in the win. “We stayed on the rebounds and hustled on defense."

Cavan Babbit, who had added 13 points to the cause, added, "We went out their played unselfish and knocked down are shots."

Andrew Tallon and Hayden Mason continued to light it up for the locals, scoring 27 and 18 respectively.

Girls Basketball

Drummond 37, St. Regis 25

A slow start didn’t prevent the Lady Trojans from staying on the winning track early in the season, as they mounted a 16-7 second period run to gain a lead they would never relinquish.

Holly Hauptman was the sole scorer in double figures with 12 for Drummond.

Boys Basketball

Drummond 69, St. Regis 38

St. Regis paced Drummond early, but the Trojans stayed strong and eventually wore down the Tigers and claimed their second win of the young season.

“Great effort by everyone tonight,” said DHS Head Coach Levi Parsons. “(We) played great on both ends of the floor. Got some good transition scoring, controlled the boards and only turned the ball over eight times. Really happy with where we are as a team right now.”

Sophomore Trey Phillips stepped to lead the Trojans with 18 points, with Chase Goldade adding 14 and Colt Parsons 13.
