Lady Trojans exact revenge on visiting Charlo

DRUMMOND – It was just 10 days ago that the Drummond Lady Trojans lost a semifinal match to the Charlo Lady Vikings in their own tournament. It was frustrating to be sure.

But DHS Head Coach Sam Larson had set her sights on Tuesday’s match as a barometer for her team and how they were progressing in the 2023 season.

They didn’t disappoint.

Drummond swept the visitors 25-14, 25-17, 25-11 to advance to 3-0 overall.

”Our team really improved since our match with Charlo in the Tip-Off Tournament,” reflected Larson, “I’m very proud of the work these girls have done in the gym and proven on the court.”

The Lady Trojans started slowly in the opening set, with Charlo jumping out to a 3-0 lead. When Drummond took the serve, senior Delaney Wagner rattled off 12 service points that included three aces. The locals dominated from that point forward to claim a 25-14 win.

Set two was closer, with the Lady Viking hanging around until the score was tied 12-12. But once again Drummond took control, using a 13-4 run to close out the set and take a 2-0 margin.

The third set was a Lady Trojan runaway from the start, as Wagner went another 8-0 service run to set the tone and help her team complete the sweep.

While Wagner was busy with the big hits (7 kills), service aces (6), and defensive digs (15), sophomore Kimber Parsons was piling up stats as well. She led in kills with nine and collected three blocks.

Anna Kate Sawfer dished out 20 assists.
