Granite cagers make short work of Lincoln


LINCOLN – It was a pair of big wins for the Granite basketball teams Thursday night on the road in Lincoln.

 

Varsity Boys

Granite 71, Lincoln 48

After 57 days the Prospectors finally put one in the win column Thursday, beating Lincoln by 23 on the road. The victory snaps a nine-game losing streak and advances their record to 4-9.

But more importantly it sets Granite on an upward swing as the Distirct 13 Tournament is set to begin in two weeks February 17 in Frenchtown.

After battling Drummond just two night’s before, the Prospectors took no chances in scoring 25 points in each of the first two quarters and led 50-28 at halftime.

Andrew Tallon broke loose for 30 points with Hayden Mason close behind at 26.

The Prospectors get no time to rest, going back on the road Saturday to play Seeley Swan.

Girls Varsity

Granite 54, Lincoln 29

Senior Reece Pitcher scored 11 of her game-high 26 points in the first quarter to help Granite grab an early lead and secure the victory.

The Lady Prospectors are now 10-3 on the year and 9-1 in district play. They will face undefeated Seeley Swan Saturday on the road to battle for the tournament’s No. 1 seed and the coveted first-round bye. Granite holds the tie-breaker over the Blaclhawks.

Pitcher combined with Comings to score 17 points in the opening stanza against the Lynx and the locals never looked back. Comings finished with 12 points.
