Drummond sweeps Lincoln to earn road victory

LINCOLN – The Lady Trojans took control early and never let up in claiming a straight set win in Lincoln Thursday night. The win keeps Drummond perfect on the year at 4-0.

“We practiced all week serving on a short court knowing Lincoln's gym is a little shorter and with not as much room behind the line,” stated DHS Head Coach Brooks Phillips of her team’s strategy going into the match. “We started the season with great serving in our first game and then struggled up at Granite and a little in Darby. I told the girls that we had to serve well tonight because giving the other team points with service errors doesn't help us. They stepped up and had a great night behind the line serving 71 times and only having three errors in the three sets (96%).

“They played the net well and were ready for over pass errors (from the other team). When we made an error they adjusted refocused and went to work. The younger girls on the bench even got to see a little time.”

The night saw the return of junior Hadley Spencer who topped the locals with eight aces at the service line. Senior Sydney Phillips was tops at the net with seven kills and tyhing sophomore Holly Hauptman with two blocks each. Sophomore Jessie Struna dished out all 14 of Drummond’s assists.

The Lady Trojans will return home Saturday for a match with the Pirates of Victor. Games start at 1 p.m. with the junior varsity followed by the varsity at 2:30.
