Local volleyball squads reach tourney semis before bowing out


DRUMMOND – The Lady Trojans and Lady Prospectors didn’t face off in Saturday’s Drummond Invitational Volleyball Tournament, but both had solid showings as they jump headlong into the 2023 schedule.

Both squads finished with 2-1 marks in pool play, and each won their bracket opener before falling in the semifinals.

Drummond defeated St. Regis (25-14) and West Yellowstone (25-19) before losing to Gardiner 21-25. They opened the tourney’s playoff bracket with a straight set win over Seeley Swan (15-3, 16-14) before falling to Charlo in three sets (5-15, 15-12, 12-15).

Granite was 3-0 in pool play, beating Sheridan (26-16), Hot Springs (25-9) and Alberton (25-17). They defeated fellow District 13 foe Lincoln (15-10, 15-7) in thror bracket opener before falling to eventual tournament champion Gardiner in three sets (15-8, 8-15, 10-15).

Granite will get another shot at Sheridan Tuesday when they host the Lady Panthers, followed by a home game with Victor on Thursday. Drummond will be off until Thursday when they will host the Lady Eagles of Valley Christian.
