Drummond dumps Lone Peak, advances to second round

MANHATTAN – The Drummond Lady Trojans started slow but picked up the pace quickly as they swept the Lone Peak Lady Big Horns 3-0 in the opening round of the MHSA Class C Western Divisional Volleyball Tournament.

The victory puts them into a match with Twin Bridges at 5:30 p.m. Thursday night. The Lady Falcons reached the second round by sweeping Superior in their opener.

It seemed as though the Lady Trojans were working out the kinks after a two-bus trip over icy roads and occasionally thick fog banks. But after edging the Lady Big Horns 25-23 in the opener, Drummond found its groove and started taking control midway into the second set. By the time the third set started, the Lady Trojans had the match well in hand, cruising to a 25-8 win.

Jesse Struna dished 27 assists in the match, distributing the ball to six different hitters that were lead by Holly Hauptman with 10 and Delaney Wagner with 9. Paytn Rasor and Bailey Parke led the defense with 14 and 12 digs, respectively. Lexi Nelson had a pair of service aces, a block and four kills.
