Drummond Boys, Granite Girls stumble in tourney openers

FRENCHTOWN – It was a hard start for local teams in the Class C Western Division Tournaments that began Thursday in Frenchtown.

Granite Lady Prospectors

Granite entered as the No. 2 team out of District 13C, taking on Charlo in their opener.

The two squads played dead even through halftime, 24-24, despite a 6-0 run by the Lady Vikings to start the second that Lady Prospectors responded to with a 10-0 run of their own.

But it was a big third quarter that proved to be the difference as Charlo pulled away and held in the fourth toi win the game.

“We played tough however we had 21 turnovers total,” said GHS Head Coach Cash Laslovich. “You can't win tournament games when you don't care of the basketball.

“We are still going to grind and see where we end up.”

Ramsey Smith and Montannah Piar led the Granite offense with 16 points each, while Addi Lilyquist chipped in 11.

The Lady Prospectors will face D13C foe Lincoln in the Consolation Bracket Friday at 9:30 a.m. The winner will play again Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The loser is eliminated from the tourney.

Trojan Boys

Still fighting the ‘creeping crud’ that has beset many Montanans, the Trojans were unable to get up to full speed in suffering a 62-34 loss at the hands of Manhattan Christian.

The Eagles got off to a fast start, outscoring the locals 33-16 through halftime. Drummond was unable to match the pace in the second half, eventually falling by 28 points.

"We just really struggled offensively today," said DHS Head Coach Levi Parsons. "I think their size disrupted us mentally a little. We played really well in our half court defense but gave up a pile of transition points.

"Hopefully we can recover and make it count tomorrow."

Brody Rasor’s 13 points was the only total in double figures for the Trojans.

Drummond falls into the Consolation Bracket where they will face fellow D13C foe Valley Christian Friday at 12:30 p.m. The Winner will advance to an 11:00 a.m. game Saturday while the loser is eliminated from the tournament.
