Lady Trojans ground Falcons in home finale


DRUMMOND – After their first home match of the 2018 season, new Head Coach Shona Bradshaw was sizing up her team in a post game interview.

“I think we’re in the top four or five (in our district) and by the end of the year be in the top three,” said Bradshaw optimistically after beating Sheridan August 30. “We can beat anybody on a given day as long as we’re all on the same page.”


Saturday night, in their final home match of the season, Bradshaw and her girls got on that same page as they defeated a strong Twin Bridges squad in four games, 23-25, 26-16, 25-16, 25-21. The win comes in the penultimate week of the season for Drummond as they’ll play at Deer Lodge Monday before closing out the regular season Tuesday at Granite in Philipsburg.

After dropping a close game in the opener by two points, Bradshaw had to make an adjustment. It came in the form of getting the Lady Trojans to simply communicate.

“We were talking to each other,” said Bradshaw. “Everyone ended up getting in sync with each other and playing well together.

“I am so proud of the girls! They finished strong and beat a very good Twin Bridges team.”

The Lady Trojans swept the next three games to secure the win in decisive fashion.

Sydney Phillips led the attack at the new with 10 of Drummond’s 30 kills on the night. Hannah Bradshaw added six while Donna Seekell and Sara Kielley each chipped in five. Phillips and Seekell also led the team in blocks with four and two, respectively.

Kielley led the team in assists (15) and digs (14). Rylee Hilmo contributed six assists and Hailey Swarengen chipped in 12 digs. Hilmo and Seekell tied with three service aces each.

After next week’s road games, the Lady Trojans will head just southwest of Belgrade to Manhattan Christian for the District Tournament October 25-26.

Drummond defeats Lima (Thursday).

DRUMMOND – The Lady Trojans finished off their regular season matchup with the Bears by by defeating Lima in three straight Thursday, 25-8, 25-17, 25-8.

Seekell led the locals with nine kills at the net, with Bradshaw adding eight and Swarengen six. Hilmo was tops in aces with four, Swarengen led in digs with six and Kielley dished out 17 assists.
