Valley Fire sees busy day amid summer heat
GRANITE COUNTY - The Valley Fire District responded to three calls Friday, all related to the dry conditions of a dry July.
The third call of the day drew the biggest response, with trucks being dispatched from both the Drummond Fire Station and the Hall Substation. A tanker, three swift response vehicles and about 10 firemen were dispatched to a hay field just northeast of Hall where a baler had caught fire. A bearing in the baler had failed and ignited the dry hay that it was collecting.
Earlier in the day VFD responded to a pair of roadside grass fires that were ignited by vehicles. All three incidents were managed without injury or significant property damage, aside from the baler.
