Trojans fall to Wardens in season opener

DRUMMOND – It was a tough game from the outset as the Drummond Trojans fell to Powell County 55-30 in their first game of the delayed 2021 season.

Powell County opened up a 14-0 lead before Drummond managed to get on the board late in the opening period. They maintained that lead well into the game before a second push put them at a margin that was too much for the younger, less experienced Trojans to recover from.

“They were Intimidated. They kids knew what kind of team that was,” said DHS Head Coach Levi Parsons after his team’s loss Tuesday night. “That’s a team that went to state and won a game last year and they’re only missing one player guy from that team. They’re a ‘B’ school and they play one of the best 1-3-1 defenses in the state. It’s hard for us to prepare for that. We know what they’re bringing but until you see it you can’t prepare for it.

“We got out of sorts right off the bat. We threw a lot of bad passes and turnovers killed us.”

Despite rally from an early rebound deficit and unforced turnovers, Parsons saw a number of positives that his Trojans will take away from playing up against the Wardens.

“When we settled down and could run our offense, we could do some good things with it. But we forced into such a hurry from the intimidation of that defense they forced us to get out of sync.”

The Trojans were led in scoring by sophomore Colt Parsons with eight points, followed by senior Alec Hauptman with seven.

Drummond will head to Seeley Lake Friday to take on the Blackhawks.
