Trojans fall to Valley Christian in season finale

DRUMMOND – It was a frustrating night for the Drummond Trojans as they fell to the visiting Eagles of Valley Christian 69-46. But no one may have felt that frustration more than DHS Head Coach Levi Parsons.

“They’re not that good. We laid over and died in the second half,” said Parsons after the game.

After a solid first quarter in which Drummond held a 12-0 lead on the back of Sam Bryant’s post play, Valley came back to outscore the Trojans 19-10 in the second. The run gave the visitors a 20-12 advantage at halftime.

“They beat us down low,: observed Parsons of the Eagle’s run. “They had six points in the second quarter off of out of bounds plays. That’s ridiculous. That’s us watching the game and not playing. Then they got a bunch of points off of rebounds. They shot outside and we did a good job of boxing out but did not pursue the ball.

The second half, I don’t know. We allowed them to beat us down the floor over and over and over and over again. And then we didn’t play disciplined.

“Whether my kids know it or not, we can beat that team.”

Valley picked up where it left off after the break, using a 19-5 run to put the game well out of reach. By the time Drummond found its footing again to play with the Eagles in the fourth, the outcome had been determined.

Bryant was the lone Trojan in double figures with 14.

Drummond will start the postseason Tuesday against Victor at home.
