Trojan cage Tigers in Darby to help Drummond complete sweep
DARBY – In a span of 1:17 the Drummond Trojans turned the tables on the host Darby Tigers, claiming a slim two-point lead they’d enlarge to five in a 57-52 win Tuesday night. The win advances the Trojan men to 4-0 in 2022 and 8-1 on the season.
“We got the win but we definitely weren't ourselves,” said DHS Head Coach Levi Parsons after the key road win. “We rebounded better but still ended up getting out rebounded by a smaller team.
“But we showed a lot of heart and kept digging. That's a long bus trip and a long night so definitely a good win.”
Drummond started out slowly, trailing early and having only scored five point until three minutes remained in the first quarter. But a quick surge brought them within two, 14-12 by period’s end.
The game remained a nip-and-tuck affair until late in the fourth, when Trey Phillips hit a bucket with 3:29 to play and knotting the game at 52-52. One possession later, Colt Parsons hit Chase Goldade on a fast break for a bucket and the go-ahead score.
Drummond had two opportunities to put the game further out of reach at the charity stripe, but missed the front-end of two 1-and-1s that allowed the Tigers to remain close. When they did make a play to tie the game, Ben Bradshaw delivered a key shot block with 22 seconds to play to give his team the ball and the eventual winning margin down the stretch.
Caleb Parke led all scorers in the game, collecting 17 of his game-high 26 points in the second half. Goldade was also in double figures with 14 while Phillips chipped in nine.
These two teams will save the best for last, facing each other in the final game of the season February 12 in Drummond.
