Titans postseason path can be simple – Win and they’re in

GRANITE COUNTY – The postseason is just two weeks away and teams are jockeying for their final playoff positioning.

For the Flint Creek Titans it’s as easy as beating the Victor Pirates in the regular season finale and they’ll get a spot on the playoff dance card.

Already claiming their spots are Clark Fork (7-0, 8-0), Thompson Falls (6-1, 7-1) and Mission (6-1, 7-1). More on them in a bit…

The Titans stand at 4-3 in Western Conference play while the hapless Pirates come in at 0-7. Flint Creek is tied with Seeley Swan and Darby for fourth place, but the Titans hold the tie breaker by having beaten both of them this year. So even if the Blackhawks and Tigers manage to post wins in their final contest (Seeley play at Thompson Falls and Darby hosts Mission), if Flint Creek wins they still advance.

A Titan loss, combined with wins by either of the previously mentioned teams, would eliminate them. But should they both lose and 3-4 Plains should beat 10th place Troy, then the tie breaker would be Fewest Point Against Common Opponents. If that were to occur, the Horsemen currently have a 237-238 advantage over Flint Creek. So to advance with a loss, the Titans would have to lose to Victor allowing fewer points than what Plains gives up in beating Troy.

In short, to save everyone’s head from exploding from complicated math, the Titans need a ‘W’ Friday night.

That game will also be Senior Night for Flint Creek, with players Conley Wagner, Daniel Brabender and Wyatt Rigby being honored. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Drummond High School.

As for the second and third place berths, Thompson Falls and Mission are knotted at 6-1 and vying for that No. 2 slot which would give them a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Because these two squads will not face each other in the regular season, they will use Fewest Point Against Common Opponents tie breaker. In that statistic, the Blue Hawks have a 108-126 advantage over the Bulldogs with one game to play.

In the final week of play Thompson Falls hosts Seeley Swan while Mission travels to Darby.
