Titans bash Badgers, improve to 6-0

CASCADE – It was tense for a quarter, but in the end the Flint Creek Titans took to the road to collect a 48-20 victory from the Cascade Badgers.

The win keeps the Titans in first place in the South Central conference at 5-0, 6-0 on the year, with three games to play in the regular season.

As has been the case lately, Tyler Burden got things rolling by punching the ball over the goal line from the one just 1:55 into the game. The score followed a Colt Parson’s interception, his second in as many games.

On the Badgers next possession, it was Andrew Tallon’s turn as he picked off a James Lewis pass to set up another Burden score from five yards out to leave Flint Creek up 14-0.

But Cascade wasn’t about to just quit. Lewis led to straight drives that resulted in a pair of touchdown passes and a tied score with 2:43 to go in the first. It appeared that the hosts were ready to make a game of it.

But just 1:40 later Burden snapped off one of his signature long runs, a 51-yard jaunt that put Flint Creek up 22-14 before period’s end.

Flint Creek then put the pedal to the metal. Burden scored twice more and Tallon had a 15-yard run to take full control of the game, 42-14 at halftime. Each team would add one more score before game’s end. Tallon logged one for the Titans in the third while Lewis tossed another scoring pass in the fourth.

Flint Creek is on the road again October 7, heading south to Sheridan to face the Panthers.

In other South Central conference games Lone Peak edged Choteau 22-18, Ennis beat Powell County 61-8 and Simms handled Seeley Swan 58-12.

Tyler Burden is currently making an assault on the Flint Creek single season rushing record, having amassed 1,240 yards this season. That ranks him second behind Kade Cutler’s 1,435 (2019) and just ahead of Colby Manley’s 1,183 (2018). … Burden is now third on the Flint Creek all-time rushing list with 2,807 yards, ranking him behind Cutler (3,746) and Manley (2,900). … For the third straight game Burden scored five touchdowns, giving him 21 for the year. That ranks him fifth for a season behind Cutler (29, 2019), Manley (27, 2018), Cutler (25, 2020), and Preston Metesh (23, 2020).
