RDP: Lady Prospectors vanquish Eagles; Boys fall in fourth quarter


MISSOULA – The Granite basketball teams earned a split of games played Tuesday night with Valley Christian, with the Girls remaining perfect in District 13 play while the Boys fell to 1-1.

 

Girls Basketball

Granite 69, Valley Christian 31

Only minutes into the first period the Lady Prospectors were well on their way to a 2-0 mark in District 13C play. Granite followed a 20-9 run in the first with a 14-5 salvo in the second to take firm control of the game by halftime.

The locals used a balanced scoring attack, senior Reece Pitcher leading the way with 18 points, Rounding out the double figure scorers were Rachel Ward with 15 and Asha Comings with 11. Lucia Lee and Montannah Piar finished at the top of single digits with nine points each.

Granite will be off the remainder of the break and will retake the floor January 7 at Darby.

Boys Basketball

Valley Christian 51, Granite 45

Knotted at 32-32 after three periods, the Eagles outscored the Prospectors 19-13 in the fourth to secure the victory.

“It was a solid game that went back and forth the whole game,” said GHS Head Coach Mindy Avila. “What lost it for us were our turnovers and not rebounding the ball (boxing out). I've been trying to instill in these boys that we are not just a 3-point team. You live and die in the 3 point game like and it did us in at the end today. It was a disappointing loss.

Cayhel White led Granite with 14 points, with Cavan Babbitt adding 11 and Hayden Mason 10.
