Parke claims 13C Pole Vault Title at Western Divisional meet


MISSOULA – Granite County had a solid weekend at the Class C Western Division Track Meet this weekend, qualifying 17 athletes in 38 events for the Class C State Track & Field Championships next week in Missoula.

Drummond’s Caleb Parke was the lone competitor to win one of his events, topping the Pole Vault field with a leap of 11-0 feet.

Parke will also be competing in the 4x100M and 4x400m relays with teammates Colt Parsons, Tyler Burden and Alec Hauptman.

The top local on the day was Sam Bryant who qualified in five different events including the 400m, 800m and 1,600m runs and both the 110m and 300m hurdle races.

Freshman Scott Parke rounded out the field for next week’s meet and will compete in the 3,200m and Pole Vault.

The Lady Trojans had seven athletes earn entry into the state meet, lead by sophomore Holly Hauptman with four events (300m hurdles, Shot Put, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay). Joining her on the relay squads will be Deana Parke, Bailey Parke, Sydney Phillips and Maddie Yakos. Phillips in on the 4x400m team while Yakos runs the 4x100m and will also compete in the 1,600m run and Pole Vault.

Senior Deana Parke will also compete in the 400m and 800m runs.

Rounding out the Lady Trojans entries will be Jessie Struna in the Javelin.

Granite had a smaller contingent punch their ticket to next week’s competition, led by Avery Metesh in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump.

Avery’s brother Preston and teammate Trevor Morissey will both compete in the High Jump for the guys

Asha Comings was the sole Lady Prospector to advance, doing so in the High Jump and Triple Jump.
