Lady Trojans ground Eagles in road win

MISSOULA – After back to back losses home last week, the Drummond Lady Trojans found a way to get back on the winning track with a four-set win over the Eagles of Valley Christian, 25-16, 15-25, 25-21, 25-12. The victory elevates the locals to 6-2 on the year.

After splitting the first two games with the hosts, Drummond used a an 11-point service run from sophomore Jessie Struna to turn the tide and take a lead they would never relinquish. Struna collected four of her six service aces in the string to go along with her 23 assists as the team’s setter.

Senior Sydney Phillips was back on track for the Lady Trojans, leading the squad in Aces (7), Kills (12) and blocks (4). Freshman Holly Hauptman had nine kills and tied Phillips in blocks with four. Deana Park and Gracie Weaver each had eight defensive digs to lead the locals.

“The girls showed up ready to play,” said DHS Head Coach Brooks Phillips. “(They) got a little down in the second game but then turned it around and by the fourth game (their) confidence was back and teamwork took over.

“It's always good to get a win on the road. (The) kids were rested up and that sure helped. Each win is a big win this season.”

The junior varsity was also victorious with a straight set win over Valley, 25-19, 25-9, 15-7.

The Lady Trojans get a day off before getting back on the court at home against St. Regis Saturday in Drummond.
