Lady Prospectors punch ticket to District 13 Championship with win over Drummond
PHILIPSBURG – The Granite Lady Prospectors held off a determined Drummond squad Thursday to post a 54-43 victory, earning the right to play Seeley Swan Saturday in the District 13 championship game.
The Blackhawks soundly defeated Victor 85-15 in Seeley Lake.
Granite opened the game with a 19-11 first-quarter run, but the Lady Trojans were not about to roll over and play dead. Seniors Deana Parke and Sydney Phillips combined for 17 points in the second and third periods, even giving them a momentary one-point lead in the latter stanza. But the Lady Prospectors rebounded to recapture the lead and the momentum on their way to the win.
“(The) girls played a great game tonight, showed a lot of composure in big moments,” said GHS Head Coach Brandon Piazolla. “I'm proud of them. Our pressure was good at the end and we hit some timely free throws.”
Granite was 8-for-13 in the final eight minutes while Drummond managed only two baskets. The Lady Trojans will play for the Consolation championship Saturday against Victor in Drummond. Tip off is slated for 4:30 p.m.
