Lady Prospectors fall short with missed buzzer beater
SEELEY SWAN – It was oh so close to a win for Granite Thursday night.
The Lady Prospectors rallied from a deficit to trail by five with just under 10 seconds to play. They took the inbounds after a made Blackhawk free throw and raced it up the floor where sophomore Ramsey Smith hit her second three pointer of the period to bring her team within two.
As Seeley attempted to inbound the ball, a granite defender knocked it away, off a Lady Blackhawk and out of bounds. After a pair of timeouts, Granite got the ball in to Smith who launched another trey that just missed the mark, leaving the Lady Prospectors on the losing end of a 40-38 score.
“We played hard,” said GHS Head Coach Cash Laslovich. “We couldn't get our shots to go our way in the third quarter. Our turnovers are what hurt us tonight, but we had players step up and hit clutch shots in the fourth quarter. All we needed was a few more seconds on the clock.
“(I’m) looking forward to playing Seeley at home next.”
The two squads were tied 18-18 at halftime before the hosts used a 10-6 run in the third to edge out to a four-point lead heading into the fourth.
Lucia Lee led Granite with 14 points while Smith added 11.
The Lady Prospectors will play on the road again Friday, this time in a much shorter trip across the county to play Drummond.

A well-played first half gave way to foul trouble in the second as the Blackhawks sailed away from the Prospectors to claim the win.
“(We) played super well the first half then we fell apart the second half with foul trouble,” observed GHS Head Coach Mindy Avila.
Granite trailed by just four at intermission before fouls eventually caught up with Eric Pitcher and Cayhel White.
Tallon had 21 to lead the Prospectors in the scoring column.
