Granite girls stay perfect with win over Drummond

PHILIPSBURG – The Lady Prospectors kept their win streak alive Friday night, defeating the visiting Lady Trojans of Drummond 40-35. Granite is now 5-0 on the year while Drummond falls to 1-3.

Granite opened the game in a full-court press that seemed to throw the Lady Trojans off their game, allowing the Lady Prospectors to an 11-4 lead that they maintained through halftime to 20-13. But a 15-9 run by Granite in the third gave them a margin that Drummond could not overcome.

“The girls came out in the second half and did a lot of good things,” said DHS Head Coach Nate Bignell. “I thought they handled the press a lot better this week.”

Once the Lady Trojans figured out the press and the tactics to break it, they outscored their hosts 11-5 in the final stanza.

“They some really good three-point shooters and they’re really not a bad team at all,” said Granite’s lone senior Amelia Hill, who scored six points. “I just think we just need to do what we we’re doing in the first half and elevate that in the second.”

Rachel Ward led the Lady Prospectors with 16 points while Reece Pitcher added 11.

Sydney Phillips and Deana Parke each had 11 points for Drummond.

Granite heads to Seeley Lake to take on the Blackhawks Saturday while the Lady Trojans head to Victor.

Drummond squeaked out a win in the junior varsity game 33-31 over the Lady Prospectors.
