Granite Girls, Boys claim wins at Sheridan

SHERIDAN – The Sheridan basketball teams were no match for either of the visiting Granite squads as both the Prospectors and Lady Prospectors notched victories.

The Prospector boys were able to get off to a fast start and cruise to an 18-point win over the Panthers, 47-29.

“We were able to jump on them early and our pressure really caused them problems,” said GHS Head Coach Dustin Keltner. “We played a great defensive game. We limited them to six first half points and were able to really play at the tempo we wanted.

“A lot of guys played in the second half so it was nice that we were able to go deep on our bench.”

After an 18-4 first stanza, the Prospectors kept up the pressure with an 11-2 second to lead 29-6 at the break. Sheridan tried to rally in the final 16 minutes, but it was too little, too late.

Kade Cutler led Granite with 15 points, with all but two coming in the first half. Preston Metesh and Daniel Brabender each added eight in the win.

The Prospectors return home for their final two games of the week, hosting Harrison-Willow Creek Friday and county rival Drummond Saturday.
