Granite falls to Valley Christian in District 13C finale

MISSOULA – Granite was hoping the third time would be the charm. Unfortunately they ran out of luck in the waning moments of the game.

The Prospectors fell to Valley Christian 48-39 Saturday night in the championship game of the District 13C Tournament.

And due to Drummond winning their game against Darby, Granite will not face a challenge game Monday but rather enter the Division Tournament Wednesday in Deer Lodge.

“The kids executed the game plan beautifully. They had a very unlikely hero tonight in Micah McCloy who hit a couple critical threes. We had our chances to win the game, but our kiddos gave maximum effort.

“I absolutely love these kids and I'm extremely proud of them.”

Granite exchanged the lead with Valley several times throughout the game, the last coming at 2:48 when senior Kade Cutler stepped to the free throw line and hits two shots to give the Prospectors a 36-35 lead.

But just 30 seconds later, McCloy hit a three-pointer that gave the Eagles the lead for good.

Cutler led Granite with 10 points with Brian Ward adding nine.

The Prospectors have drawn the #1 seed from District 12C in the Divisional opener, Twin Bridges. Tipoff is set for 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Powell County High School.
