GHS Girls sink Victor, Boys fall at buzzer
VICTOR – It all came dow3n to a hail Mary shot that for the Pirates that was answered Thursday night as Victor upended the Granite Prospectors, 45-44.
“The boys played so well.” Said GHS Head Coach Mindy Avila. “I couldn't have asked them to play better offensively or defensively. Ultimately it came down to one last shot and they hit it at the buzzer.”
Trailing 36-33 going into the final stanza, Granite managed to hold a lead as the Pirates had the final possession. But despite outscoring them 11-9 in the period, it proved to be one point shy of forcing overtime.
“Proud of how everyone played,” said senior guard Andrew Tallon. “(We) had a few eighth graders out there and we should have won it, (but) they had some fall at the end and we didn't.”
Tallon finished with nine points while Eric Pitcher led the way in the scoring column with 20. Cayhel White was also in double figures with 12.
Granite is off until Wednesday when they will travel to Seeley Swan. They’ll follow that game up the next night in Drummond when they take on the Trojans.
