Drummond rides Rasor’s edge to Consolation Championship
DRUMMOND – And a child shall lead them.
Well, maybe a freshman … or two.
Freshmen Trey Phillips scored a team-leading 10 points and Brody Rasor hit a pair of three pointers to help the Trojans earn a 38-32 win in the Consolation Finals of the District 13C Tournament Saturday afternoon.
Drummond will be unable to challenge back into the District bracket as Valley Christian edged Granite in the championship game Saturday night.
It was a one-point game through halftime when Darby grabbed a 16-15 edge. They expanded it to two at the end of three periods, setting up a dramatic fourth quarter that eventually gave the Trojans the win.
Trailing 31-29 with 1:25 to play, Drummond brought the ball down and got to Rasor on the right side. The freshman stepped and drilled his second three-pointer of the night, giving the Trojans a 32-33 lead they would never relinquish.
“Big fourth quarter,” said DHS Head Coach Levi Parsons of his team’s play. “He (Brody Rasor) stepped up. He played great. We haven’t really leaned on all year and we put him in a tight ball game and he did a great job.
“It’s not been the season that we wanted, but that being said we’re young. We lost two seniors that we really counted on. … Having two seniors on the floor is big and we had to lean on some younger kids. Between Trey (Phillips) and Brody and some other kids the future is bright here.”
The Trojans had balanced scoring in the win, led by Phillips 10. Right behind him were Caleb Parke nine and Sam Bryant with eight.
