Drummond falls to Wardens in regular season finale

DEER LODGE – The Drummond Lady Trojans closed out the 2021 regular season by playing up a class, falling to the Powell County Wardens but gaining some good experience in the process. Powell County won the match 25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20.

The Lady Trojans were never really out of the match and were even 1-1 after the first two sets. But the Wardens steadied their game and held off the Class C upstarts to win the match in four sets.

Junior Varsity

Drummond def. Powell County, 25-16, 25-23, 15-9

The Drummond Lady Trojan junior varsity completed a perfect 10-0 season Friday night with a win over the Class B Warden JV girls. On the year they dropped only three sets for a strong 30-3 overall record.

JV Head Coach Sabrina Shows joined first-year head coach Paige Fickler in taking the reins of the program this year and was very pleased with how this group developed and played.

“They’re always very coachable and I feel like we got along really well,” said DHS JV Coach Sabrina Shows. “Their energy meshed well in bringing up the 8th graders. I think they were a little nervous at first, but they proved they can play with the best of them too.”

Kimber Parsons led Friday’s attack with six kills and two blocks. Bailey Parke and Brooke Hicks doled out four assists each, while Delaney Wagner led in digs with 13. Parke and Cyleigh Langton tied for the team lead in aces with three each.

Rounding out the roster was Lexi Nelson three kills, five digs and a pair of aces.

Shows continued, “I told then going into this last game that they: ‘A’ have to set the stage for the varsity game; and ‘B’ you gotta make a statement that this JV team hasn’t lost a game all season, not even to a Class B school.

“This group has been super fun. Every day at practice has been super fun, I think I got a little angry once, but we all responded to each other really well all season.”
