Drummond falls in Divisional opener to White Sulphur Springs
MANHATTAN CHRISTIAN – Whether it was the weather or opening tournament jitters, the Drummond Lady Trojans took too long to get their game in gear Thursday. They fell to White Sulphur Springs 3-0 in their first-round match and will play next in the Consolation Bracket.
The Lady Trojans were well out of sync in the opening set, making several miscues and service errors that allowed the Lady Hornets to run away with a 19-point victory.
Drummond started the second set shaky as well, committing service on their first four attempts. But the Lady Trojans fought back to draw within three, 20-17, forcing the White Sulphur into a timeout. The Lady Hornets came out of the break to claim a 25-19 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Drummond seemed to find their groove midway into the set three, but by then White Sulphur was on a roll and on their way into the next round.
Lexi Wagner led the Lady Trojans at the net in logging 12 kills. Bailey Parke and Lexi Nelson each added four. Nelson led in assists with 12 and Anna Kate Sawfer had 11. Kimber Parsons had the lone block and Parke the team's only ace.
Drummond falls into the Consolation Bracket where they will play Hot Springs Friday at 10 a.m. The loser of that match is eliminated from the tournament.
White Sulphur Springs advances to the Winner’s Bracket semifinal where they will face Twin Bridges Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
