Drummond drops second straight to Blackhawks

DRUMMOND – A busy week with tough opponents added up to a Saturday loss for the Drummond Lady Trojans, falling in three close straight sets 25-23, 25-21, 25-23.

“It's been a long week with little practice and three great competitors and everyone is exhausted,” said DHS Head Coach Brooks Phillips. “But that isn't to take away from Seeley. They are a good team and Klaire Kovatch is very strong in the net.

“I think the whole team is looking forward to some good practices and sleep!”

Unlike their previous matches this week against Clark Fork and Charlo, The Lady Trojans started more slowly and allowed the visiting Blackhawks to get into a rhythm that proved to be tough to break all match long. Seeley would run out to a lead, only to be reeled back in by the locals. But playing from behind proved to be a dangerous game that Drummond could never quite overcome.

In Game 3 of the match senior Sydney Phillips was hampered with a foot injury, but reserve players Paytn Razor and Bailey Parke helped fill the void while fellow senior Gracie Weaver stepped up her game as well.

Phillips and sophomore Holly Hauptman tied for the team-lead in kills with five a piece while Weaver and Hannah Bradshaw contributed four each. Phillips also had a team best four blocks.

Deana Parke led in service aces with three and defensive digs with 12. Jesse Struna had 16 of the team’s 18 assists.

The Lady Trojans will get a few days off early this week before traveling to Missoula to take on another tough opponent in Valley Christian Thursday afternoon.
