Drummond bests St. Regis in straight sets

DRUMMOND – It took a little longer than most folks expected, but the Lady Trojans got the expected result Saturday as they beat the Tigers of St. Regis in straight sets 25-18, 25-21, 25-20.

“They (St. Regis) are going to play up and we played a little hesitant because we have something to lose,” said DHS Head Coach Brooks Phillips. “It took us a while to wake up. When they warmed up they looked fine but when they went out and lost that first serve, they went ‘ugh’. But they got it back together and pulled it back out.”

After taking a lead and pacing the visiting Tigers in Set 1, the Lady Trojans started very slowly in Set 2. St. Regis managed to create a 7-1 lead that took Drummond until 13-13 before they finally took lead the and extended it for the win. Set 3 saw the locals take a big lead and hold off the Tigers for the match.

Hannah Bradshaw, Holly Hauptman and Sydney Phillips all had one block each in the win. Phillips led in kills with seven while Hauptman was one back at six. Bradshaw was tops in digs with six with Hauptman and Gracie Weaver each contributing four. Deana Parke was tops in service aces with four and Jessie Struna had 10 of Drummond’s 12 assists.

In junior varsity play, Drummond swept the Tigers 3-0.

The Lady Trojans will take to the road Thursday to play the Blackhawks of Seeley Swan.
