D13C Volleyball: Granite County teams to meet in challenge game Monday

District 13C wrapped up the regular portion of its 2020 tournament Saturday, with Granite and Drummond battling for a chance to advance in the postseason. When the dust finally settled, the Lady Trojans and Lady Prospectors found themselves locked into second and third positions and slated for a challenge game Monday in Drummond. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Granite sweeps Valley Christian for third place

MISSOULA – The Lady Prospectors came out of the gate quick to grab game one before weathering two close sets to capture the match. Granite won the games 25-12, 25-23, 26-24.

“The girls came out to play today,: said GHS Head Coach Jennifer Graham, “even when under pressure, they stepped up and kept their focus and pulled out the win in three. To say I'm proud of them is an understatement.”

Lucia Lee dominated at the net with eight kills and four blocks. Rachel Ward dished out eight assists in the effort, Reece Pitcher and Summer Phillips each had a trio of service aces.

Drummond falls on the road to Blackhawks

SEELEY LAKE – The Lady Trojans could never quite find their rhythm Saturday night against Seeley Swan, dropping the match in straight sets 25-15, 25-21, 25-16.

“Not our best showing but the bus ride home reminded me how awesome these girls are and how lucky I am to get to be part of this team,” said DHS Head Coach Brooks Phillips. “Some of my proudest moments of the season have been when coaches and parents from other teams have complemented me on how disciplined and fun our girls are to play. The outcome of the game hasn't mattered when we have heard that.”

Holly Hauptman led the locals with six kills while Deana Parke, Hannah Bradshaw and Sydney Phillips each added a pair. Jessie Struna had 10 assists and tied Parke and Phillips with two service aces each.

Challenge Game: Monday, November 2

With Granite’s win and Drummond’s loss, the stage is set for a third matchup of county rivals Monday in Drummond. The match will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The two were in separate halves of the District 13C bracket and the Lady Prospectors want a shot at the No. 2 Divisional seed.

Attendees to the game must be on a preset list as prescribed by the Montana High School Association postseason rules during the pandemic. Those wishing to view the game but who cannot attend can watch it on the NFHS Network starting approximately 15 prior to the first serve.
