Flint Creek Courier recognized for outstanding coverage by Editor & Publisher

GRANITE COUNTY – “Editor & Publisher” (E&P), a recognized resource and support business for both print and digital media, awarded the Flint Creek Courier with an Honorable Mention for its coverage of the scandal surrounding Granite County Commissioner Scott Adler.

The award was given as part of E&P’s 2018 EPPY Awards. The nationwide contest for digital media saw more than 300 entries in a variety of fields. Finalists, like the Flint Creek Courier’s Tim Allen, must receive a score in the top one-third of the average score across all categories within their division (1 million and over unique monthly visitors and under 1 million unique monthly visitors). As a result, there may be no winner in categories not reaching this threshold.

The finalists were announced October 17 and the results released October 24 online.

“It’s just an honor to even be named a finalist with the number of and quality of entries they get each year,” said Allen, Managing Content Editor of the FCC and CEO of MediaFOURce LLC. “It’s nice to know that we can do great work our here in rural Montana and get recognized for it around the country.”

The Flint Creek Courier entered its coverage of the ongoing Adler situation in the Best Investigative/Enterprise Feature with under 1 million unique monthly visitors. The winning entry came from The Center for Public Integrity with its story “A Century of Domination: As America’s Carbon Wars Rage, Oil and Gas Industry Influence Grows.”

The charges against Adler stem from the alleged paving work that was done on Adler's personal property September 6-7, 2017. Adler is accused of using Granite County equipment, personnel and materials to pave his private driveway, a length of dirt road that according to Montana Department of Justice Investigative Agent Joe Vittatoe is more than 300 feet in length.

Adler will face the charges in a trial set for January 28, 2018 in Philipsburg.
