VFD Ducks finally sail down the Clark Fork

DRUMMOND - The ducks swam, places were awarded and winners crowned. It was all part of a fun-filled afternoon at the Valley Fire District Annual Duck Races.

Some 50 people turned out for the event, which had been postponed from July 8 during the Drummond Rodeo Weekend due to waters running high on the river. But with scarce rainfall over the last month, the levels were good enough to let the ducks swim free during this annual fundraiser.

In the end, one of Carla Fulk's ducks crossed the finish line first and earned her the $500 grand prize. Tina Wetsch, who had just won her duck at auction before the race, claimed the $300 second prize while the Angelo Ranch took third and $150.

Each year the Valley Fire District runs a few fundraisers to help meet department needs in areas like turnout gear, trucks and other necessities.
