Sunshine Station caught in local rumor mill

PHILIPSBURG - The Sunshine Station Restaurant was caught up in local rumor mills over the weekend, with residents concerned the local eatery may be going out of business.

The rumors started Friday afternoon when a waitress was overheard saying that she had just been told that the Sunshine Station was closing. The rumor quickly spread with no one actually asking anyone at the business if it were true and what the circumstances might be.

In the end, it was just the Sunshine Station ownership being aware of and following state laws regarding restaurants.

"We had our hot water heater go out Friday," said Tabitha Stevenson, bartender at the Sunshine Station Monday afternoon. "State law prohibits us from staying open if that goes down because it affects so many other things here."

The shutdown was temporary and the eatery was open for business over the weekend.
