Parke, Drummond serves up win over HWC

DRUMMOND – In a battle of third and fourth place teams in the District 12C standings, the Lady Trojans emerged victorious with a 3-0 sweep of visiting Harrison/Willow Creek, 25-17, 25-18, 25-11.

The two squads played each of the first two games fairly even to about 12 points before Drummond would put a string of points together to pull away. Those strings typically came during the service of Deana Parke, who was lethal from the back line. She had two streaks of 10 consecutive serves and one of seven throughout the match, mixing in seven aces to lead the Lady Trojans.

“We tried a new offense that we put in last weekend and the girls played very well in it,” said Drummond Head Coach Brooks Phillips. “I played some different people at different positions and I think they all played well regardless of where they were playing.”

In addition to Parke’s success at the service line, Hannah Bradshaw led in kills with seven, Gracie Weaver was tops in defensive digs with 11, Rylee Hilmo dished out 12 assists and Sydney Phillips had two blocks.

“Everyone played really well tonight. We even got the freshmen some quality playing time,” added Phillips.

Readjusting the team’s feng shui at this point in the season is well timed as the postseason is just a few weeks off. After playing at Sheridan Saturday, the Lady Trojans will play their final home game of the 2019 regular season Monday against Loyola Sacred Heart. That will also be Senior Night for Drummond when they will honor their lone senior Hilmo.
