HELMVILLE – For the 55th year the Helmville Rodeo will feature some of the best western talent around and a weekend full of fun for the entire family.

The Team Branding will run from Noon to 3 p.m. on August 31 with registration at 11 a.m. Entrants wishing to get more information can call 406.544.0982. There will be Open and Pro-Am classes, with the former being for more seasoned ropers and with a straight draw. The Pro-Am is for teams of one pro and one amateur rider with a pick your pro and draw the second team.
Entry is $50 a rider with two additional rules of: (1) No loping until your steer is headed, and; (2) No rubber on your horn.
Later that night there is a dance at the Copper Queen Saloon that begins at 9 p.m.
The 55th Annual Rodeo will start Sunday and Monday at 1 p.m. with a pre-show at 12:30. Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for kids and 6-and-under are free. There are seven events that include Saddle Bronc, Breakaway, Tie Down, Bareback, Steer Wrestling, Mutton Bustin’, Team Roping, Barrels and Bulls. Mini Bull Riding is also slated to mike an appearance.
Sunday’s action will be followed by a dance at the Helmville Community Hall starting at 9 p.m.
In preparation for the event, the Helmville Rodeo Club has made some upgrades to the timed event chutes.
“We’ve made improvements to the timed event chutes and roping boxes that were all separate from the upgrades to the grandstands,” said club president Bill Baker.
The club made substantial upgrades to their grandstands in 2017 after it was learned the previous year that they would not be able to hold their rodeo due to structural issues. The club managed to raise the needed funds to make the upgrades, and did so in a historically accurate fashion.
