Granite Girls drop Divisional opener to Seeley

FRENCHTOWN – The Granite Girls Basketball Team gave it their best effort Thursday afternoon, but fell to Seeley 31-28 in the first round of the Western Divisional C Basketball Tournament.

Having lost to the Blackhawks just a month earlier in Philipsburg, the Lady Prospectors were hoping to get off to a fast start. Unfortunately, a slow first quarter left the locals down 6-1 after eight minutes of play. That five point deficit proved to the deciding factor in the game’s final tally. Granite found its rhythm and rallied to outscore Seeley 20-14 over the middle two periods, taking a 21-20 lead into the fourth. But Seeley made a run and claimed the first-round victory.

Rachel Ward was the top scorer for Granite with eight points with Asha Comings adding seven and Amelia Hill six.

The loss sends the Lady Prospectors into the consolation bracket where they will face Manhattan Christian at 11:00 a.m. Friday. The Eagles are the #2 team out of District 11C.

In other first round games, West Yellowstone beat Hot Springs 69-55, Clark Fork beat Twin Bridges 43-39 and Charlo over Manhattan Christian 31-29.
