Firewood, Post & Pole ready for pickup near Hall

Philipsburg, MT, August 5, 2019— Looking to stock up on firewood for the upcoming winter? Or, build the fence you’ve been wanting? Easily accessible wood is now available to valid permit holders. Decks of wood are available for wood gathering located Southeast of Hall, near Douglas Mountain.

“These decks are unutilized material from the Douglas-Gird Timber Sale. I couldn’t see the material go to waste and know it has value to many people as firewood and rails,” commented District Ranger Cameron Rasor. “Hopefully folks can take advantage of this easy wood and put it to good use.”

Wood gatherers must have a permit in possession while harvesting and transporting wood products from Forest Service and BLM lands. The wood in these decks are 4-6 inches in diameter on the large end and approximately 15-20 feet long.

To get to the decks, take the Douglas Creek Road 707 towards Douglas Creek Cabin. Then turn left on the unnamed road and drive for approximately ¼ mile beyond the cabin. Additional decks or wood can be found on the Dunkleberg Ridge Road 8510.

Permits are $20 for four cords. Copies of permits are not allowed and are not transferable. The access roads to the wood will be restricted with a locked gate on October 15, so don’t delay. Remember to be fire safe and up to date with current fire restrictions. Go online to https://firerestrictions.us/mt/ for the latest on fire restrictions.
