Busy Labor Day Weekend planned in, around Granite County
GRANITE COUNTY – With summer winding down, Labor Day weekend may be your last chance to get out and enjoy the summer weather and events. So as you make plans for that epic barbecue, consider these season-ending events.
Please remember to wear masks and social distance whenever possible and to follow all safety protocols that these events require. Let’s keep it safe for our locals and those visiting.
Here’s a look at what’s ahead…
Titan Football
Friday, Sept. 4
The Flint Creek Titans will take a second shot at starting their 2020 8-man football season Friday when they host the Bulldogs of Mission High School. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
The game will be played in Philipsburg, getting moved from Drummond High School after last week’s canceled game against the Plains Horsemen. The seven graduating seniors as well as the team’s coaches will be honored as part of Senior Night.
COVID-19 protocols for fans are a requirement to mask up and observe social distancing. Home fans will be restricted to the west sidelines and visiting fans to the east. It is unlikely there will be a snack bar.
Weather
The temperature at kickoff will be around 80 degrees with a zero percent chance of rain according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Mud Bog & Tough Trucks
Saturday & Sunday, Sept. 5-6
The annual Austen Martell Mud Bog & Tough Trucks event will roar into action Saturday and Sunday at the American Legion Rodeo Grounds in Drummond.
In each of its previous editions this event has grown substantially in popularity, drawing better and better competition and larger crowds. It was organized to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Out of the Darkness Walks and is held in memory of the organizers’ son, brother and father.
Action starts each day at noon. In an attempt to help control any spread of the Corona Virus, event organizers are asking attendees to bring their own chairs, food and drinks.
Weather
It looks like the weather for the two-day event will be outstanding, with the NWS predicting a high of 93 slated for Saturday and 86 for Sunday. There is no rain in the forecast. Bring sun block and keep hydrated!
56th Annual Helmville Rodeo
Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Sept. 5-7
With all of the local events that have been cancelled this year, this rodeo is riding on.
The Helmville Rodeo Club has slated a great weekend of events that start with local competitions Saturday before moving into the professional ones Sunday and Monday. And this year the Helmville Rodeo will be the last on the NRA circuit, making it a battle for points in the final standings.
Action starts both days at 12:30.
While the facility has seen a number of upgrades over the summer in preparation for the event, one notable change will be parking. Patrons of the rodeo will park their cars and then pay for tickets as they enter through the gate.
Weather
Saturday and Sunday look to be great, with highs of 90 and 84, respectively. But Sunday night a front moves in, lowering snow levels to 5,300 feet. Monday’s outlook will drop to a high of just 62 with rain figuring prominently into the forecast according to the NWS. Bring sun block Saturday and Sunday, an umbrella Monday and be ready for lots of fast-paced action and fun all weekend long!
