Breakers best Drummond in home finale

DRUMMOND – The Lady Trojans started fast but finished slow as they dropped a four set loss to visiting Loyola Sacred Heart, 25-20, 14-25, 12-25, 15-25. The loss ends Drummond’s regular season home schedule and sends them on the road Tuesday night to play the Granite Lady Prospectors in Philipsburg. Games are set to start with C squad action at 4:30.

“We were talking and moving well in the first game,” said DHS Head Coach Brooks Phillips. “They (Loyola) just stepped up their game in the second set and we didn’t keep pace with them.”

Even with starter Sydney Phillips sidelined due to illness, the Lady Trojans were in full sync as the match opened. They trailed early but rallied to catch the Breakers at 7-7 and 15-all. When Hannah Bradshaw came around for her turn at the service line, she rattled off six points that gave Drummond a 20-15 advantage. The two squads exchanged points from there with the Lady Trojans eventually winning out.

But just as they had in the opener, Loyola grabbed an early lead in game two but never relinquished it again.

Bradshaw was stat leader in kills with nine, aces with three and tied Holly Hauptman with 11 defensive digs. Hauptman was also tops in blocks (6), while senior Rylee Hilmo had 12 of the teams 14 assists.
