Montana WILD to offer youth wildlife biology programs in July in Helena

HELENA - Youths ages 9 and older will have the opportunity to learn the roles of biologists during a series of wildlife programs at Montana WILD in July. The free programs are on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and will focus on the birds, fish and aquatic insects that live at Spring Meadow Lake.

The schedule is as follows:

Birds, July 9: Students will participate in a bird survey at Spring Meadow Lake. They will learn to identify birds and how to use citizen scientist websites and other resources to start their own bird survey.

• Fish, July 16: Students will learn about fish identification and fish adaptations and will even dissect a fish.

• Aquatic invertebrates, July 23: Students will learn the basics of aquatic insect identification, collect aquatic insects, and use scientific equipment, such as microscopes, to monitor populations.
