PHILIPSBURG – Granite overcame a five-point deficit and a slow first quarter to claim a 61-56 win over the visiting Pirates of Victor Friday night in Philipsburg.
The Pirates jumped out to a 17-12 lead at the end of eight minutes, but the Prospectors bounced back 20-12 second to lead 32-29 at the break. The locals added to their lead over the next two periods to secure the win as the head into the final game of the regular season Saturday on the road at Twin Bridges.
“We found a way to win,” said Granite Head Coach Dustin Keltner. “Overall, we had a poor shooting night. We were able to get some turnovers off our pressure that led to some key baskets down the stretch. The kids were able to knock down free throws late to seal the win. “I'm very proud of this young group of guys. To go 8-1 at home this season is an outstanding accomplishment.”
Brian Ward and Bryce Parret led Granite with 16 points each, while Daniel Brabender added 15.
