Lady Prospectors earn season sweep of Drummond

DRUMMOND – It was take of two halves Thursday night in Drummond, with the Lady Prospectors winning the first and the Lady Trojans taking the second. But when the final buzzer sounded, it was Granite that stood victorious with a 53-46 win on the road in Drummond.

The visiting Lady Prospectors faced challenges early, with guards Sarah Goff and Emma Grange each collecting three quick fouls. But the Granite bench came through to give them a 19-14 advantage after one period.

“(The) other girls stepped up big and scored 38 points by the half, which I think is a season high,” said Lady Prospector Head Coach Brandon Piazolla. “We’ve been tough all year on defense. We’ve been holding most people in the 20s so we take pride in our defense and we did that again tonight.”

Goff finished with 14 to lead Granite, but five other players score within two points of each other to keep Drummond guessing. Grange and Sierra Metesh each had eight, Amelia Hill and Shelby Struna had seven apiece and Audrey Radtke chipped in six.

The Lady Trojans struggled to find and offensive rhythm throughout the game, with sophomore Sydney Phillips leading the way with 12 points.

“You know they were (out of rhythm) a little bit,” said Drummond Head Coach Nate Bignell. “They came out strong and … I don’t know what happened. I need to be more prepared. We’ll get there, not to worry. I’m a young coach and I need to pick my game up.”

Bignell and his Lady Trojans will get a chance to do just that Saturday night when they and their male counterparts host the Falcons of Twin Bridges.
