BB RDP: Prospectors press Sheridan in blowout win
PHILIPSBURG – A stifling full court press kept the visiting Panthers off balance while the Prospectors capitalized on turnovers and second-chance baskets in a 60-17 win in their home opener Friday night.
“We don’t have a ton of size,” said Granite Head Coach Dustin Keltner, “but we have some quickness and athleticism and if we stay disciplined and keep our hand out of the cookie jar on defense … I thought they played well.
“We’ve been working on this offense for three years in little sections of it here and there … and the kids had some skills they needed to work on and they did this summer. It was fun to see it all come together a little bit.”
The Prospectors used their press and solid offensive rebounding to run out to a 19-0 lead after five minutes of play in the opening stanza. By periods end they had extended their lead to 24-2.
By late in the third period, Granite had started the mercy rule running clock on the visitors and finished with a 43-point win.
Daniel Brabender led all scorers in the game with 19, 15 coming in the first half. He also drew three charging fouls against opposing players. Kade Cutler chipped in 17 points.
The Prospectors are on the road Saturday to play the Bears in Lima.

PHILIPSBURG – The Lady Prospectors survived a mid-game lull and finished with a flourish to earn a 16-point win from Sheridan Friday night in Philipsburg.
“We went on a run at the beginning,” explained Lady Prospector Head Coach Brandon Piazolla, “but they came back as went a little flat. But we came back defensively and with some intensity and we were able to come back. Shelby’s (Struna) biug shot swung the momentum back our way, I was awesome.”
Granite held a 20-14 lead at halftime, but could only watch as the Panthers chipped away at it with a five-point run to start the third period that got it down to 20-19 with 4:53 to go in the period. But a lay-ion by Emma Grange and consecutive buckets from Audrey Radtke gave the locals a seven-point lead they would never relinquish.
Senior Sarah Goff led the locals with 11 points while Radtke finished with nine.
Granite heads to Lima Saturday for a game with the Bears.

HARRISON – The Trojans held off a fourth-quarter run by the Wildcats to earn a six-point win on the road.
Drummond led through three periods 36-26 before Harrison made a surge that closed the lead to its final margin.
Jonah Parke led Drummond with 14 while Luke Holland added 10.

HARRISON – Drummond trailed 14-10 at the end of the first period Friday at Harrison-Willow Creek. But that was before senior Sophia de Santiago exploded for 22 of her game-high 29 points in the middle two stanzas to lead the locals to an eight-point victory.
