Granite grad now researching, writing about politics nationally



GRANITE COUNTY – The talents of those raised in Granite County reach far and wide.

Such is the case for Kal Munis.

Munis, a 2008 grad of Granite High School, is now researching American politics as a PhD candidate at the University of Virginia in the Woodrow Wilson Department of Politics. He has had the opportunity to write articles for, and have his research highlighted in, some nationally recognized media outlets and peer-reviewed journals.

He was born in Missoula and grew up outside of Philipsburg, MT in the shadow of the Pintlar mountains, where the paternal line of his family homesteaded and have lived continually since the late 19th century. After graduating from Granite High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in political

Growing increasingly interested in empirical research, he returned to the University of Montana to pursue a master's degree in political science and graduated in 2015. Since the fall of 2015, he has been engaged in the study of American politics and social science research methodology at the University of Virginia.
