Granite County volleyball teams advance at District 12C Tournament

MANHATTAN – The Granite and Drummond girls volleyball teams both won their opening round matches in the District 12C Tournament being held at Manhattan Christian School.

Drummond defeats Sheridan, 3-0

The No. 4 Lady Trojans made short work of No. 5 Sheridan in the first game of the 12C Tournament, beating the Panthers 25-11, 25-13, 25-12. The victory advances Drummond into a semifinal match up with No. 1-ranked Ennis Thursday at 11 a.m. In two matches this year the Mustangs got the better of Drummond each time.

“The girls are playing great. We are making progress with each set,” observed Drummond Head Coach Shona Bradshaw.

Senior Donna Seekell came ready to play, leading Drummond in three of the five major statistical categories. She had five of the Lady Trojans 10 kills, six service aces, a block and four defensive digs. Sophomore Sydney Phillips also played a solid game, contributing three kills and trio of aces. Sara Kielley had four assists while Rylee Hilmo chipped in three and the same number of aces.

Granite defeats Harrison-Willow Creek, 3-0

The No. 3-ranked Lady Prospectors followed up their cross county mates with a straight set win over the Wildcats of Harrison-Willow Creek, 25-6, 25-14, 25-6. With the win Granite will face No. 2-ranked Twin Bridges in the semifinals, a team the locals were unable to beat during the regular season. That game will be played at 12:30 p.m.

“The girls played well today, first day down and on to day two,” said Granite Head Coach Jennifer Graham.

Amelia Hill led the locals with nine kills and a block; while Emma Grange had a team high 22 assists. Haddie Tallon had seven defensive digs with Sierra Metesh and Audrey Radtke each adding six service aces.
